Sunday morning. Ham briefing 5:45 a.m.
We’ve supported this organization before. They have five events a year. (Estrella Mountain, San Tan, White Tanks, McDowell Mountain, and Black Canyon City)
This event is the XTERRA Estrella Trail Run at Estrella Mountain Park Competitive Track (Not the main park). The event consists of a 20k and an 8k run on almost entirely single track (narrow trail). Far enough away to be in active prospector mines but close enough to be home by the afternoon.
MCECG will provide basic health and welfare communication support. Our primary goal is to provide communication for the various aid stations (rest stops), event staff and medical personnel if necessary.
I am currently estimating the need for about 20 HAMS.
This event has something for everybody. We can use hikers, quads/side by sides, passenger cars, high clearance 2WD trucks, and high clearance 4WD vehicles. Some of the positions are ideal for new hams and others can challenge the more experienced among us. Some positions are well suited for a handy talkie with a rubber duck antenna, others require a mobile radio or a portable mast and gain type antenna.
Go to http://mcecg.org for more information and to volunteer as a ham. The Maricopa County Emergency Communications Group (MCECG) provides planning, safety, tactical, and logistical support for public events such as triathlons, bicycle races or tours, walk-a-thons, marathons, and other foot races. Our goal is safety. Our tools are radios. Our strength is experience.
More details to follow.
